We have chanced upon a lady who is presumed to be Ghana’s youngest female referee.
The name of this lovely and energetic lady is Gloria Kumedzro and so far, she has officiated some of the big matches when it comes to Women’s Football in Ghana.
This was made known in a recent post made on a Facebook page with the name, Reality and the post made reads;
“Meet Gloria, Ghana’s youngest Professional referee.
Gloria Sena Kumedzro is a 17-year old professional referee in the Ghana Premier League.
Gloria says she discovered her passion for refereeing at a tender age while in class 6 at the Ho Bankoe R.C Girls Primary School in the Volta Region.
She then advanced to the E.P.C Mawuko Girls Senior High School (SHS) also in the Volta Region where she is carrying on with her refereeing dream.
Currently in her second year (form 2) at senior high school, Gloria is already blazing the trail, officiating football matches at various levels.
A year later, Gloria wrote the class 3 refereeing exam and sat for the class 2 refereeing exams two years later [2019], passing both exams with brilliant results.
These qualifications earned her the the privilege of officiating third division and second division ga mes in Ho.
About her rise into the Premier League, Gloria says: “They saw my performance and said I was good at the job; and so I was advised to go run the referee fitness test with a promise to help me get a shot at the Ghana Women’s Premier League.”
By dint of hardwork and grace, Gloria passed the fitness test and was immediately promoted to the Ghana Women’s Premier League.
“The first match I officiated”, she shared, “was between Immigration Ladies vs Halifax Ladies. The game was indeed tough but I made it and I was extremely happy because everybody commended me for a good job done.”
Gloria has so far had a sterling career as she has officiated some big games across the length and breadth of Ghana.
Aside from officiating games in the women’s premier league, she has also had the privilege of officiating games in the women’s FA Cup; the Ghana Super Cup and games in the women’s division 1 league. She also had the opportunity to join FIFA elate course at prampram and part of the selected ones out of the assistant referees in the Country.
Her games have never ended with controversies, a feat she is greatly proud of.
Gloria is a huge inspiration for many youths of the country, especially the Ghanaian girl child. She is a national treasure deserving of all support.
In the third place Women’s Super cup match between Prisons and Ampem Fc at the Madina Zongo Stadium, my Camera spotted Gloria Sena Kumedzro on the pitch as the assistant line one for the day.”
