Daily Trust reported the 27 students kidnapped by bandits from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Afaka, Kaduna State, have been freed.
The news was verified by one of the people who received the students, according to Daily Trust.
He stated that the release was made possible by the Sheikh Abubakar Gumi dialogue committee, which was supported by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The students were among the 37 people kidnapped almost two months earlier.
The bandits only released 10 of the hostages after parents and school administration paid the ransom.
Their kidnappers had first requested a N500 million ransom from the Kaduna State Government, but Governor Nasir El-Rufai rejected the offer, saying bandits do not deserve to live.

In other news, one of the abducted Greenfield University students regained freedom and it was an epic moment when he reunited with his family.
According to an Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, the young man is a student of the Greenfield University and he had been kidnapped by unknown gunmen for days before his release.
In a video sighted online, the family were full of joy after seeing their boy alive and well but he looked quite weak due to hunger however, they did not reveal if the family paid a ransom for the boy’s release.
