Airport officials of the Sabiha Gokcen airport were in a state of shock when a pergasus airplane carrying 171 passengers rough landed and split into three parts, killing 3 people

On Wednesday, Pegasus Airlines flight PC 2193, flew from Turkey’s western province of Izmir to Sabiha Gokcen carrying 171 passengers and 6 crew members. The plane upon reaching the runway, skidded off the runaway, broke it tyre lever and crashed on the ground, causing it the plane to split into three.

The airline has confirmed the death of 3 people. 157 people had previously been confirmed injured, meaning that almost nobody on board the flight was unscathed.

The statement said that injured passengers are being treated in hospital. The airline said it “shares in the profound sorrow of all the people affected by this tragic accident.”

According to Insider, Turkey’s  transportation minister, Mehmet Cahit Turhan said the accident was down to a “rough landing.” 

Sabiha Gökçen airport has been shut down after the crash and all other flights are rerouted to Istanbul’s main airport.
