In the wake of Burna Boy’s Grammy nomination, we have made a listicle of Burna Boy and other Nigerian artists who gained the same recognition in the past with some going on to grab the award itself.

Burna Boy was nominated in the Best World Album alongside Altin Gün for Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley for What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet for Fanm D’Ayiti, and Angelique Kidjo for Celia.

Whether he Burna Boy grabs this award or not, he’s has still joins an enviable league of Nigerians who have gained this recognition.

#2. King Sunny Ade

Year of nomination: 1983, 1988 (Did win both).

#3. Kevin Olusola

He won it as a member of the famous group Pentatonix in 2015.

#4. Sade Adu

Sade and her band have been nominated for a total of 9 Grammy awards between 1986 and 2013 and have won four.

#5. Femi Kuti

Years of nomination: 2003, 2010, 2012 and 2013 but has never won any.

#6. Sikiru Adepoju

Years of nominations: 1991 and 2009. Won both as a member of Planet Drum.

#7. Seal.

Won 3 Grammys for the song Kiss From A Rose in 1996.

#8. Chamillionaire

Nominated twice in 2007 for the same song ‘Riddin’. He won the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group that year.
