In a sad report, another gory accident has been reported to have occurred on the Techiman-Kintampo highway at Tuobodom in the Bono East region has claimed eight lives.

According to the reports, the accident involves a Mercedes Benz truck with the registration number AS 9554G and a taxi cab with the registration number BA 1356 P.

The Bono East MTTD Regional Commander, ASP Andrews Okonengye stated that the truck which was conveying school desks collided head-on with the Taxi which had passengers traveling from Kranka in the Nkoranza North district to Techiman.

In his narration, the police officer said at about 2 pm on Friday afternoon, they received a call from onlookers at the scene that there has been a terrible accident.

He indicated that they got there and realized it was indeed true that the driver of the truck, Yaw Offin, 50, who was moving towards Kintampo from Techiman.

“When he got to Tuobodom, the driver lost control of the vehicle and just on the verge of falling, a taxi cab coming from the opposite direction driven by Kwame Mensah, 26, with four other people on board crashed into it.

“The impact was so great such that the cargo truck turned around to face the opposite direction,” ASP Okonengye said.

Six people died on the spot while two were rescued and sent to the hospital by officers of the Ghana National Fire Service.

The two injured passengers died two hours after they were admitted at the hospital. In all, there were two females and six males.

The police have been able to identify all the victims except one and they have deposited the bodies at the Holy Family morgue for autopsy and preservation.

The road has since been cleared.
