Oba Oyewunmi, the Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of the Sate has been set free by his abductors.

ASP Sunday Abutu, the spokesperson of the police command of Ekiti confirmed the development to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday that the traditional ruler regained freedom in a forest in Kwara. Recall that the traditional ruler was abducted about days ago.

Abutu said;

“I can confirm that the ruler has been released from captivity. He has also been reunited with his family.

“He is receiving medical attention in one of the facilities in the state as a result of the trauma he went through,’’

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), his release comes just 24 hours after a close family source told newsmen at a N20 million ransom was demanded by his abductors to secure his release.

Meanwhile, the details of the ransom being paid to secure the release of the traditional ruler remains tentative after he was kidnapped on last Thursday.

Reports suggests that at around 8:30p.m on Thursday, six gunmen stormed the palace of Oba Oyewumi, beat up everyone at the scene with the traditional ruler inclusive.

Days after his abduction, his family was contacted to pay a ransom of N20 million to secure his release. According to ASP Abutu, the police command had no idea of ransom paid. He said;

“All I can say is that his freedom was facilitated by the concerted actions taken by the police and other security agencies,’’

Ekiti State’s Amotekun Corps Commander, retired Brig-Gen. Joe Komolafe, made it known that the traditional ruler was freed at a place in Obbo Ayegunle, Ekiti Local Government area of Kwara with the aid of the Kwara vigilance group.

Joe Komolafe said;

“When we went into the bush, we tracked the traditional ruler to the area, the Vigilantes from Kwara State joined our team and we were able to rescue his release.

“No ransom was paid. We have brought him home and he is currently receiving medical attention,’’
