The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mohammed Nii Adjei-Sowah has announced that property rates will soon be increased.

In an interview with Class 91.3 FM, the Mayor revealed that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly would be engaging the citizenry to avoid surprise of increment after the new rate is announced.

“We have not implemented the new ones yet and even without that the rates are going,” he said.

He also added that the rate at which Accra is developing in terms of building is moving fast hence the need for an efficient property tax system to shore up revenue.

He concluded by saying that property rates were the main source of the assembly’s internally-generated fund but added that any rates implemented would be fair for property owners.
