Female Radio presenter of Adom FM Charity Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa Akrofi has finally won the court case against New Patriotic Party (NPP) loyalist, Hajia Fati.

Hajia Fati who was not present at the last sitting at the Adjabeng Magistrate Court in Accra, was fine an amount of GH 10,400 whereby, out of the said fine, an amount of GH 5,400 will be paid to the State and GH 5,000 will be paid to the journalist Ohemaa Sakyiwaa as a form of compensation for assaulting her.

According to the presiding Judge who read the verdict, Judge Isaac Addo, the court pardoned H ajia Fati due to her age. He also emphasized that, he would not sentence her to a custodial sentence that is prison but would rather fine her a total amount of GH10,400.

However, failure to pay the GH 5,400 to state by Hajia Fati, will result in her being incarcerated for 20 months.

Background

Adom FM’s presenter Charity Akosua Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa Akrofi, popularly known as Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa, was assaulted by the NPP supporter Hajia Fati at the party’s headquarters on May 2018.

Defending herself, Hajia Fati stated that she mistook the journalist for an onion seller as the reporter neither sought her permission prior to taking photos of her nor did she introduce herself as a journalist.

The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court, presided over by her ladyship Gifty Adjei Addo, on December 2, 2019 awarded a total cost of GH¢ 10,000.00 against the vociferous NPP supporter for assaulting the Multimedia Group reporter.
