The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has finally cleared that air about speculations going around on social media that Naa Adjeley Mensah, the best farmer in 2021 was awarded a bicycle, a knapsack sprayer, and insecticides inside a basket.

A photo that surfaced on social media indicated that the best farmer was awarded just these prizes at a durbar held at the St Theresa School on Friday.

The reportage sparked mixed reactions on social media as many expressed their frustration in what many decribed as a peanut for such an enormous contribution to the agricultural sector.

In a statement released by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA), the assembly has debunked claims going round on social media that the best farmer was given such an award on that day.

According to the statement, the awardee received a Rambo 500 Polytank, knapsack, seeds, insecticides, cutlasses and fertilisers.

The statement signed by AMA’s head of Public Affairs, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, revealed Mrs Mensah was given a bicycle which was her personal request following series of engagements.

Other winners include Bernard Akakpo Dzakpasu, Best Agro Processor, Ibrahim Seidu, Best Crop Farmer, Morrow Isaiah, Best Innovative Farmer, Joseph Nkansah, Best Backyard Farmer, Martha Lamptey, Best Fish Processor, Daniel Botei Sango, Best Hook and Line Fisherman, Emmanuel Lartey, Best Ali Poli Watsa (APW) Fisherman,” part of the statement reads.
