In Ghana, our celebrities can go to any length to stay relevant or more famous, as it were. Those are even not fit to earn the label ‘celebrity’ also indulge in antics that will make them famous.

In the realm of Selena Gomez however, she says it would be perfectly fine if she wasn’t famous anymore. While attending the celebrity-studded Met Gala on Monday night in New York City, the 24-year-old pop singer stopped by for a brief interview with Brandon Stanton, the creator of the popular “Humans of New York” photo series.

Later she wrote on her Instagram page thus: “I feel like I’m just starting, but I think I’d be fine if it all went away. I get that from my mother. From the moment I started singing, she always reminded me that all of this was a privilege, and could be taken at any moment. So singing is not how I define myself. I try to keep my identity rooted in my friendships and my faith.”
