American actor, Leonardo DiCaprio has cautioned the government of Ghana not to go ahead with the proposed mining project which it has struck with the Chinese government because it will deplete the Atewa Forest which is the home of several wildlife.

Report circulating online say Ghana has received the first instalment of the $2 billion deal this week which was initially agreed upon in 2018 to begin a mining project.

Despite cautions from the U.S Forest Service, on May 30 the Government of Ghana began creating access roads into Atewa Forest Reserve in preparation for the bauxite mining. A Rocha Ghana, Ghana Wildlife Society and other CSOs are still fighting to save this unique forest.

To this end, the Titanic star believes Ghana still has the chance to pull out of the agreement and protect the animals from extinction and safeguard the clean water that serve several communities.
