Eight miners met their untimely death last Wednesday when an illegal mining (galamsey) pit they working in collapsed on them at Ayanfuri in Upper Denkyira West of the Central region.

Ayanfuri is said to be a community with the youths engaging in so many illegal mining activities.

Sources claim as at 7:00 pm, the victims were trapped in the pit popularly known as Phase 4 when it collapsed on them at the outskirt of the community and when they were able to retrieve their bodies and rushed to the Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital, all the eight were pronounced dead on arrival.

The victims are believed to be between the ages of 24 and 35 years and their bodies has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

It is said the accident scene was been closed down by the Police whiles they continue with their investigations.
