An eyewitness has shared his side of the story in an interview with the police over the explosion that occurred at Appaitse Bogoso in the Western Region.

There was a huge explosion in Appiatse between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region on Thursday, January 20th. About 100 people have been reportedly injured after the explosion.

According to the Ghana Police service, an investigation has commenced and has established that mining explosives packed in a vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion.

An eyewitness identified as Kwesi Agyemenag has countered the claims of the driver that he warned them about the car containing explosives. Recall that the driver of the truck said that he screamed to alert people to run for their lives when the truck collided.

According to the eyewitness, they saw the truck on fire so they went there with the intention to help victims.

He said, “normally when there is an accident on our road, we move to check for casualties just to help. But when this one happened and we moved to the scene, the vehicle was ablaze and the driver has already left the scene.”

“We did not know what was in the vehicle and nobody gave us any information concerning that, disregard any rumors indicating that the driver informed us. The first responders and people who got closer to the vehicle died, imagine if the driver told them about what was in the vehicle, do you think they would still be standing there to lose their lives”.
