The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed postponing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to 2022 as a result of the coronavirus.

The tournament, which will be hosted by Cameroon, had been scheduled for January next year with qualifiers expected to be completed at the end of the year.

However, qualifiers are currently on hold due to the virus, thereby forcing CAF to utter their initial plans. The decision means there will be enough time for qualifiers to be completed.

“Health is our number one priority. We must remain vigilant,” Caf president Ahmad Ahmad said in a news conference announcing the move.
