Carole Baskin children-American animal rights activist, Carole Baskin was born on June 6th, 1961 on the Lackland Air Force Base in Bexar County, Texas.

Baskin was born to Vernon Charles Stairs and Mary Barbara Jean Norris Stairs. She happens to be the only child of her parents and she comes from a poor family background.

When she was nine years old, she displayed an interest in helping cats, but after learning that veterinarians put animals to death, she opted not to pursue a profession in veterinary medicine.

Baskin claims she was gang raped at the age of 14 by three guys who lived across the street from her home and that her traditional Christian family did not provide her with any emotional assistance.

She quit high school and moved out with a worker from a nearby roller rink. Then, Baskin took a hitchhike from Florida to Bangor, Maine, sleeping beneath parked automobiles. Later, she bought a Datsun pickup and put her pet cat in the back.

Carole Baskin career

At the age of 17, Baskin worked at a department store in Tampa, Florida. She started breeding show cats to raise money and started a llama lawn-mowing business.

Baskin wed Don Lewis, her second husband, in January 1991 and joined him in the real estate industry. In 1992, the pair established Wildlife on Easy Street, a big cat refuge close to Tampa.

Baskin and her husband originally raised tiger cubs and display cats but quit when they saw how much suffering the practice was causing the animals. Baskin is still serving as the sanctuary’s chief executive officer. After Lewis vanished in 1997, she gave the facility a new name: Big Cat Rescue.

She has promoted action against private zoos through social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and her podcast “The Cat Chat.”

Baskin was chosen to compete in Dancing with the Stars season 29 in 2020. She and partner Pasha Pashkov performed a paso doble to Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” on the series’ September 14 season debut, earning the lowest overall score of the night with an 11 out of 30.

Baskin has urged Congress to outlaw the private trade in and ownership of exotic cats through her organization Big Cat Rescue. When President Joe Biden signed the Big Cat Public Safety Act into law on December 20, 2022, it was part of her life’s work and the work of her family.

She advocated for the Captive Wildlife Safety Act’s enactment from 1998 until its passing in 2003, and the bill fixed the Act’s gaps. The BCPSA gradually phases out private ownership of big cats and outlaws interaction with all big cats and their cubs.

From 2005 until 2016, Baskin gave only to Democratic candidates; however, after 2017, a sizable portion of her donations have gone to Republicans. 2020 presidential hopeful Cory Booker and Congresswoman Kathy Castor, who represents Baskin’s district, both recently donated money to Democrats.

Does Carole Baskin have any children?

Baskin has a daughter with her ex-husband, Murdock. The name of their daughter is Jamie Veronica Baskin. She was born on June 16th, 1980.
