Music espouses varied themes- from entertainment to education, music wield much power and influence in our lives. However certain songs offends one’s sensibility and thus labelled repulsive based on one’s own perspective (subjective).

In this context, they become controversial. Ghgossip presents to you five most controversial Ghanaian songs of all time.

  1. Tuabodom- Nkasei

Tuobodom is arguably the most controversial song out of the list we have here. It was composed by two friends Kwame Godlove Yeboah (Shy) and Isaac Mensah (Naa K) who make up the group, Nkasei.

The song is folkloric, revealing the backward nature of some folks who lived in a town called Tuobodom in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. According to the song as told by the musicians, many years ago a school in Tuabodom was invited to participate in a sports competition in Kumasi. Prior to their departure, one of the teachers of the school decided to teach the students a very unique song that will make the people of Kumasi acclaim them as The Brutal Of The Brutest

.

Nkasei’s song further taunted the people, saying they have never seen a tarred road before.  In a bid to add elements of creativity to this non-fiction, punctuated by witty lyrical content, Nkasie rather caused a measure of alienation to a section of their fans.

The popularity of song was so widespread and cemented the pedigree of the two rappers. However the content caused outrage among the people from that place who complained bitterly they could not contain the scorn and ridicule. The song was even discussed in the parliament (yes, parliament) in a bid to ban it outright! This is the real definition of ‘controversial.’
