Larry Tesler, the brain behind one of the most important computer languages has passed away. He wasn’t a well known inventor but his effort to make computers and and mobile devices easier to use are the greatest things he did in his career as a computer scientist.
According to Gizmodo.com, Tesler was born in 1945 in New York and studied computer science at Stanford. After working in AI research, he joined Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in 1973, where he developed cut, copy, and paste ( scientifically known as gypsy ) which is used to remove, duplicate and reposition texts.
Tesler worked with Apple Computer where he held countless positions at the company. Such positions include, Vice President of AppleNet, Apple’s Chief Scientist etc. He also made a UI design known as “modeless computing” which is published on his personal website.
After leaving Apple, Tesler worked at Stagecast, an education software startup that was spun out of Apple, and also spent time at Amazon, Yahoo, and 23andMe. Since 2009, he had been a UX consultant based in California before his death.
