The Executive Director of the African Center For Parliamentary Affairs(ACEPA), Dr. Rashid Dramani has backed the call for the members of Parliament to be relieved of their duties for some time following the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in Parliament.

Recall, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin revealed that some of the members of Parliament have tested positive for coronavirus and have asked them to stay home and observe the protocols.

According to Dr. Rashid, lives can not be lost in the name of lawmaking, adding that the lives of the MP’s are equally important and need to be preserved by all means.

He further said that they do not want any political crisis and so they want to save the lives of all the 275 MP’s.

All this that we are saying is because, at the end of the day, we want to have all our 275 MPs. We don’t want any political crisis, he said.

In times of emergencies and pandemics, any business of govt can wait. Let’s make sure the lives of our lawmakers and families are safe, he added.
