African-American singer Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, professionally known simply as ‘Akon’, has spoken out about why Nigerian artists are doing much better than a lot of U.S hip-hop artists.
He made this known when speaking at a summit about Africa and how to brainstorm ideas for its progress when he admitted that he believes a lot of Nigerian artists are richer than their U.S counterparts.
Akon said we place a lot of foreign artists on a pedestal but the truth is a lot of them are broke. He narrated how many American hip-hop artists shoot music videos with huge gold chains and fancy cars but then go home in an Uber after the shoot is over.
Akon said African artists such as Wizkid and Davido actually own such cars and can confidently say they aren’t broke.
