Veteran Highlife musician, Ben Brako has disclosed the reason why ‘Payola’ has recently chunk the music business is because DJs in the country were not being paid well.
He indicated that due to the bad payments and salary on the side of DJs employers, DJ also used that avenue to survive.

Speaking in an interview on Rainbow radio, he explained that he felt very disappointed when he discovered that a musician had to pay before they get their creative records published.
He noted that when he came to Ghana to find out what’s going on he was shocked because he returned with so many ideas but only to realize that the system has changed with so many private media houses.
His comment came up following a question he was asked about why he hasn’t released any records after dropping his top album ‘Baya’ in 1987.
Ben Brako stressed that he came to Ghana with hope but when he noticed about the ‘Payola’ phenomenon it gave him no choice than to go back abroad.

According to him, the bad payment of DJs was part of the industry over the years because the stations weren’t having the resources to support them financially.
