Don Jazzy aka Don Baba J originally born Michael Collins Ajereh is a Nigerian record label owner, producer, songwriter cum singer who was born 26 November 1982 is from Isoko in Delta State, Nigeria. He is 37 years of age and his father is Collins Enebeli.

Don Jazzy was born in Umuahia, Abia State to an Igbo princess from Abia State and his father who originates from Isoko. His family as a way of living moved to Ajegunle, Lagos where he got most of his upbringing.

Early life and education

Don Jazzy as called by many had his education at co-educational high school, Federal Government College Lagos, and later gained admission to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state to study Business Management Studies. At age 12, he started playing bass guitar which one ca say influenced his decision to be a music producer.

Don Jazzy’s love for music instrumental got him to visit London as his uncle invited him to come play drums for his local church. Popular fast food joint, McDonald’s employed him as a security guard during his stay in London.

Career

Mo’ Hits records

In 2004, Don Jazzy teamed up with D’Banj to set up Mo’ Hits Records which D’Banj was the first signed artiste. Under Mo’Hits Records, D’banj’s two albums ”No Long Thing” and Rundown/Funk You Up was produced by Don Jazzy. Curriculum Vitae

which was D’banj’s third studio album is also stated to be Don Jazzy’s hand work.

Mushin 2 MoHits, an album that was described as one of the best albums to ever come out of Nigeria also had Don Jazzy playing a part in the production.

GOOD MUSIC

Don Baba J is also noted for provided vocal performance for Kanye West’s song Lift Off with Beyoncé on the Watch The Throne album.

Don Jazzy later in 2011 service was needed by Kanye West as a producer at Very Good Beatz. During his working time with Kanye West, Don Baba J worked with Jay Z on production credit for his Lift Off song off Watch The Throne album which was released on 8 August 2011.

In March 2012, Don Jazzy and D’Banj abandoned their partnership citing artistic differences.

Mavin Records

On 7 May 2012, Don Jazzy gave birth to a new record label, Mavin Records. On 8 May 2012, he released an album ”Solar Plexus” featuring the artists signed to his label including Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, Wande Coal, Dr. SID. The album had songs like AmarachiForeverOma GaTake Banana and ChocolateYOLO and the anthem I’m a MAVIN.

Mavin records had grown to be one of the most powerful record label which formerly had the likes of  Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks, and Iyanya.

In 2015, Don Jazzy had an argument with Olamide during Headies Awards as a result of who had to win the ”Next rated” award where Reekado Banks, then Don Jazzy’s artist won ahead of Olamide’s Lil Kesh. Both parties barely after 48 hours settled their differences and apologized on social media.
