Christmas is here and the dominant food consumed by celebrants is rice. Many people have not taken the time to examine the kind of rice they buy from the market and whether it has been approved by the Food and Drugs Board of Ghana.
A rather shocking news from Nigeria indicates that custom officials in that country has seized 2.5 tonnes of plastic rice imported by unscrupulous business men. The rice was meant to be sold to the unsuspecting public during this festive season. Lagos customs chief, according to the report, said the ‘plastic rice’ felt sticky after it was boiled. A sample of the rice has been sent to the laboratory to determine its constituents.

The public has already been cautioned not to consume the strange product since it could potentially cause serious health implication. Few months ago, videos of a Chinese syndicate producing ‘rubber rice’ with so much professionalism popped up on social media. Later, a video of human carcasses being cut and processed into can food also surfaced on the internet sending shivers down the spine of many Ghanaians.

We believe you will take the necessary precaution to safeguard your safety during this yuletide whilst you enjoy your rice.
