A 43-year-old taxi driver identified as Akwasi Agyemang Badu has been arrested and charged with defilement and incest.
The accused who appeared before the Accra Circuit Court has been accused of allegedly continuously having canal knowledge of his 14-year-old daughter at Kotobabi.
Mrs. Christiana Cann who presided over the case admitted the accused to bail in the sum of GHC60,000.00 with two sureties, one to be justified with a landed property worth GHC60,000.00.
The court further ordered that the title deed of the landed property should be deposited at the court‘s registry pending the final determination of the matter. It further restrained Badu to stay 50 meters away from his daughter.
According to the Prosecuting Officer, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, he complainant is a trader residing at Kotobabi in Accra and the mother of the victim.
He said that the complainant has been living with her daughter until she was 12-years-old when he started asking about her father.
The complainant had no option to take her to see her biological father since they all lived at Kotobabi but in different houses.
The accused accepted the victim and started assisting in the furthering of her education.
He then started having canal knowledge of the victim since last year.
The young girl informed the mother of the act and a report was made to the Police at Kotobabi and the matter was transferred to the Nima Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit for investigation.
Police Medical Report form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for examination and treatment, the prosecutor said, adding that Badu was subsequently arrested for investigations.
