Captain of the women’s Under 20 national team, Black Princess, Sandra Owusu Ansah has revealed that an injury she sustained during a national duty is potentially leaving her out of the game as authorities seem to have neglected her to her fate.
Sandra revealed in an interview that she has to hide the pain so she could be available for selection for subsequent matches to help her country.
“I got injured at the under 17 World Cup in Costa Rica; it was not severe as it is now so I concealed it and went ahead to play the next world cup in Jordan and then at the under 20 level at Papua New Guinea under Coach Masuud Didi Dramani and then in France”, she said in an interview with Jeffrey Amoah Sunzu on Kumasi-based Angel FM.
The player was ruled out of the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nation hosted by Ghana due to the injury set back which impact escalated at a training session prior to the tournament.
“All the coaches and doctors at the national teams know of the situation and have promised to help me undergo a surgery to correct the anomaly, but no help has been forthcoming”, she said.
“I have spoken with the authorities at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the team doctor but funds are yet to be released as promised”, she revealed.
The player says doctors have estimated the surgery to cost ₵20,000 and would be able to fully recover within 6 weeks.
