World football governing body, Fifa has handed Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Ahmad Ahmad a five-year ban after he was found guilty of breaching various codes of ethics.
Ahamd who is Fifa vice president has also been fined has also been fined $200,000 despite previoulsy denying any wrongdoing.
The 60-year-old has been breached codes relating to duty of loyalty, offering and accepting gifts, abuse of position as well as misappropriation of funds, according to Fifa statement.
“The investigation into Mr Ahmad’s conduct … from 2017 to 2019 concerned various Caf-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of ah Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in Caf’s dealing with the sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities,” a Fifa statement read.
This decision means his ambition of securing a second term as Caf president is in serious doubt as he must pass an integrity check.
