Following Prophet Kofi Oduro’s viral sagging boobs and virgin comment, a former minister under the erstwhile government in John Dramani Mahama’s administration, Victoria Lakshmi Hamah has fired some shots at the famed God.
Prophet Kofi Oduro made headlines recently when he said women who are not virgins deserve a meagre of ₵200 as bride price. He argued it’s virgins that can demand higher bride prices and not those who have had sexual escapades before deciding to finally tie the knot. He further said women with sagging boobs equally fall within that bracket- a comment that attracted wile reactions on social media.
While reacting, the former deputy Communications said Kofi Oduro’s comment is highly condemnable and to some extent demonstrates the chauvinistic environment we find ourselves in this part of the world.
She wrote: “Free speech is clearly being abused here. A very irresponsible comment indeed – reflecting the reactionary male chauvinistic ideas about women’s bodies. I am not supportive of the traditional norm of bride price either but associating a monetary value to the breast of a woman sought to commodify the female body.
His unfortunate comments reflect the existing gender-social ideas that position women’s social relevance as sex objects. This realism extends from the profit-driven global economic paradigm which sustains the institutions of unproductive super-structures such as the church whose existence only reinforces the asymmetrical power relation of gender inequality.”
