For the first time in the history of Ghana politics, an opposition party member has been voted onto the seat of Speaker of Parliament of the 8th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
After the 2020 general elections, Parliament sat to vote for the Speaker of Parliament and its Deputies.
After the voting exercise, candidate from the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin won the Speaker of Parliament for the 8th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.

Her are 5 things that have changed and will happen in the 8th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
1 Opposition Party Member Becomes Speaker of Parliament
For the first time in the history of Ghana since independence in 1956 from the Colonial Bristish rule and becomes a republic was held on April 27, 1960, Gold Coast became the Republic Ghana.
In 1992, Ghana became a democratic state and since then, it has enjoy it Parliament. In all the 7th Parliament of Ghana, the Speaker of Parliament has always been elected from the ruling government.
However, history has been made in the 8th Parliament where for the first time, the Speaker of Parliament was eleted from the opposition party from the NDC.
2: Opposition Member Becomes President In The Absence of President And Vice
The new thing that has happened to the 8th Ghana Parliament is that, the person who becomes President of Ghana is Honorable Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin.
This means that, the opposition party NDC Member, who is the elected Speaker of Parliament, Honorable Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin leads Ghana as president in the absence of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
3: Opposition Member Presides Over Parliament Sitting
Since the Speaker of Parliament presides over Parliament sitting, it is now clear that the oposiotion party is going to spearhead sittings and meetings in the House.

When the Speaker of Parliament Honorable Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin becomes President in the absence of the President and his Vice, the opposition party NDC becomes the ruling paety of Ghana.
