An Argentine and a Chinese national have reported to Korle-Bu Teaching hospital under the directive of a private hospital in Accra.

According to peacefmonline.com, the two foreign nationals are said to have shown symptoms of the dreadful virus which has claimed close to 600 lives in Hubei and Wuhan, China. The two suspected carriers of the virus are currently going through series of medical test at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).

Speaking on Joy news, Dr William Baah, Greater Accra Divisional Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, disclosed that the two patients moved to Ghana on different dates. The Chinese has been been in the country since 2019 whilst the Argentine travelled to Ghana in January 2020.

He added that:

“They’ve all developed some symptoms that fit the case definition [but] it doesn’t mean they have the disease,”

However, more test will be run on them to be certain that the two do not have the virus.

Another report coming in from the KIA is that health officers at the airport recently picked up one person for testing after he showed symptoms of the virus at the Kotoka International Airport, Dr Dennis Laryea revealed.

The individual, after being kept in solitude for 6 hours and tested, proved negative. Dr. Laryea said:

“The gentleman wasn’t very happy but he understood that we were doing this in the interest of public safety,”

The virus dubbed 2019-nCoV, has led to more than 20,000 illnesses and more than 560 deaths in China, as well as more than 200 illnesses and two deaths outside of mainland China.

Simple symptoms of the virus include fever, cough, running nose, sore throat, nausea, vomitting, diarrhoea etc.
