Akuffo Addo

Ghana’s president, Nana Akuffo Addo has received backlash from a section of Ghanaians for suggesting he will create four new regions to bring the total of regions in Ghana to fourteen(14). The decision has received so much condemnation from even some NPP faithfuls that, many are predicting his exit in the next general election.

The President has given reasons to substantiate the need for this new development. He said: “the process of devolution of power will require that we look again at the regional structures of our country all with the aim of trying to promote rapid development of Ghana.”

The four new regions are: Western North Region, Ahafo Region, Oti Region and Eastern corridor Region.

In view of this, Dan Botwe has been nominated as Minister for Regional Re-organisation and Development to head this sector. During the campaign Nana Addo’s campaign in the last election he promised the people of Western Region to create a new region if he is given the nod; however the president has seen the need to add three more.

The president has indicated that wok on this project would commenced in 2018.
