There is an indefinite ban on beauty pageant following bikinis won by contestants which were displayed in front of the Prime Minister who was in attendance in Conakry, Guinea.

Guineans took social media to vehemently protest what they described as a shame on their culture. In that regard a committee has been set up to come up with a new code of ethics.

Guinea is inhabited by lots of Muslims so we somewhat understand the reaction from them.

Beauty pageants remain a very a popular competition with young women although feminists have over years tried to discourage it because it degrades women. With the exception of Islamic countries almost all countries organize a beauty pageant in one form or the other.
