Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu has reacted to the appointment of Kissi Agyebeng as Special Prosecutor by stating bluntly that he’s someone who lacks what it takes to tackle corruption.
Speaking to Citi News, the Tamale South MP clearly stated that Mr. Agyebeng does not merit the same charisma the Martin Amidu, who occupied that enviable capacity had. According to him, the nominee lacks the weight and will to fight corruption.
“Credentials compared to who? Mr. Martin Amidu is a non-starter. Compared to Mr. Martin Amidu in terms of stature, experience, integrity, and reputation, he [Kissi Agyebeng] just doesn’t come close. You need men of weight and will to fight corruption. Mr. Martin Amidu suited [the Office] perfectly but because he would not get the cooperation and the support of the president, he had to bow out.”
Recall that legal practitioner and Chairman of the Electronic Communications Tribunal, Kissi Agyebeng was nominated to the position of the Special Prosecutor earlier this week.
Announcing in his nomination, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Godfred Dame in a letter addressed to President Akufo-Addo dated Friday, April 16, 2021 expressed his satisfaction with the expertise of the nominee.
“…In accordance with Section 13(3) of Act 959, I hereby nominate Kissi Agyebeng ESQ for the appointment of the position of Special Prosecutor, subject to the approval of majority of all the members of parliament,” part of the statement read.
“I am satisfied that Kissi Agyebeng possesses the requisite expertise on corruption and corruption-related issues is high moral character and govern integrity and satisfies all the other requirements stipulated in Section 13(1) and (2) of Act 959,” the statement added.
