The General Secretary of Hepatitis Society of Ghana Consultant Gastroenterologist, Doctor Duah Amoako has said that Hepatitis can be transmitted through childbirth.

Speaking on Adom TV Health show “Nkwa Hia”, Dr. Amoako stated that Hepatitis is basically an inflammatory condition of the liver which is commonly caused by a viral infection. According to Dr. Amoako, the symptoms which come with Hepatitis A and E are similar to the symptoms of malaria. However, Hepatitis A and E are not serious alignments like Hepatitis B and C because the immune system of the body fights Hepatitis A and E.

“Children normally get affected by Hepatitis B and C through childbirth. However, some parents fail to do so because they can’t afford to pay for the vaccine. The immune system of children is weak to fight the Hepatitis so they end up dying” he added.

Dr. Amoako further stated that Hepatitis is generally the cause of stroke because it damages the liver of humans. Although Hepatitis can be caused by transmission it can more harmful to men when there’s an excessive intake of alcohol.
