Onaapo was NDC’s campaign song which became the most circulated, most played and most enjoyed song in the build to the December 2016 election. In fact never in the history of Ghana has a political song gained widespread recognition like Onaapo

, produced by Nacee. What made it so special is the fact that it was enjoyed by political opponents, and even played at churches and clubs.

As a result of this, many entertainment critics called for it inclusion in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. However after the list of nominees were released yesterday, Onaapo

was not in any of the categories.

Explaining why Onaapo missed out, the new PRO of the VGMA board Nii Ayite Hammond explained that inasmuch as the song was very popular the board did not know which of the categories it could fit in.

He said they did not know if they have to place in Highlife, Reggae, Dancehall or any of the categories hence they omitted it outright.
