In 2019, before the Black Stars football team represented the country in Egypt, the coach of the team Akwesi Appiah stripped off the captaincy band from Asamoah Gyan and gave it to the current Black Stars captain Dede Ayew.

It seems the player Asamoah Gyan is still not happy about the decision and actions of the coach. After three years, Asamoah Gyan has mentioned it once again n an interview on Asaase Radio a few days before his book launch.

He stated that he felt betrayed and hurt, adding that a lot of people backstage knew there was more to it. In his words, “I felt betrayed (when the Captain’s armband was taken from me in 2019) so I couldn’t control my emotions. People who know everything behind the scenes, know I was betrayed.”
