Internationally celebrated Tanzanian singer and songwriter, Diamond Platnumz has recounted how he nearly went bankrupt after he featured Nigerian music superstar, Davido on his ‘Number One’ remix seven years ago.
Diamond Platnumz told Nairobi News, Kenya in an interview published by Tuko that Davido was the right choice of artiste for him because he had plans to break through the West African music market.
However, the joint project he engineered left him broke as he spent 10 times more than his usual investment in previous music projects.
His words,
“Before doing the first video version of Number One at Ogopa Djs in Nairobi, my video cost used to be about KSh 326, 000 per video. With Number One, I went ten times higher and spent KSh 3.3 million or thereabout to fly Ogopa Djs video crew to Cape Town, South Africa, and shoot my video. The outcome was amazing, and that gave me the green light to approach Davido for a remix”.
He further revealed that due to the exponential cost of getting Davido to shoot the music video for the song, he had to borrow money from several banks to fund it.
“I took loans from Tanzania banks to finance my video and collaboration with Davido in Lagos because I had to travel there with my crew”, Diamond added.
