Jamaican sprinter and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Yohan Blake has declared that he will not take the COVID-19 vaccine ahead of the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
His declaration comes after the International Olympic Committee [IOC] mentioned earlier this year that it is compulsory for all participating athletes to received the COVID-vaccine to ensure the protection of athletes and the citizens of Japan.
“Also out of respect for the Japanese people, who should be confident that everything is being done to protect not only the participants but also the Japanese people themselves,” t he IOC said.

Reacting to this, Yohan Black said he would rather miss the Olympics than take the COVID-10 vaccine and according to him, he has his reasons for refusing to comply with the directive of the IOC taking the vaccine.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist advised people and his colleague athletes to follow their mind not people, however, he did not disclose the reason for his stance.
Yohan Blake was quoted by Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner as saying:
“My mind still stays strong, I don’t want any vaccine, I’d rather miss the Olympics than take the vaccine, I am not taking it.
“I don’t really want to get into it now, but I have my reasons.”
“Follow your mind, don’t follow the crowd. At the same time, be respectful to each and every one. Don’t let no one take away your choice.”
