After he was not given the attention needed by the MTTD, he turned his pleas to the Accra Mayor, Mohammed Adjei Sowah who was also present during the proceedings. The Accra Mayor was heard telling Derek Boateng that he had no power to be there and could not direct the police on what to do or release him.

The proceedings were later directed to the Nima Police station for the footballer to be processed to court. He was however accompanied to the police station by an officer.

In anger, Derek was heard saying, “I’m a national asset so I cannot run (away). But the way you guys are treating me, it’s like I’m a stranger or something. I’m not going anywhere”.
