Despite the fact that the registration of the voters registration which has been contested by the National Democratic Congress and other smaller political parties has officially begun today, that has still not stopped Ghanaians from all walks of life to pass their opinion about it in strong disapproval.
Ahead of the contentious voters registration which starts today, the President made a speech on national television on Monday saying; ‘The election on 7th December must be a Ghanaian election, not a West African election, conducted with a voter register of Ghanaians. That is the only way the true will of the Ghanaian people can manifest.’
His seemingly stubborn stance has not impressed some Ghanaians who still insist the new voters register is not necessary, premised on the fact that it was the same register that made his the President in the last election.
Commenting on the controversial subject, Communications Consultant Raymond Ablorh wondered how President Akufo-Addo accepted to become President of Ghana through via the same voters register. He further argued that it is only in Ghana that an invalid and unclean register can elect a clean and valid President.
He fired via social media: ECOWAS President, Nana Akufo-Addo now wants to become a President of only Ghana by ensuring that the non-Ghanaian ECOWAS citizens who voted for him in 2016 don’t vote in 2020.
It’s only in Ghana that an invalid and unclean voter register could produce a valid and clean President. Sometimes, I feel our President and his people are questioning their own legitimacy.
