Jaylen Smith Awards and Honors – Jaylen Smith made history in 2022 when he became the youngest mayor ever elected in the United States of America at just 18 years old.
Smith grew up in Earle, Arkansas, and graduated from Earle High School in May of that same year. As a candidate for the Democratic Party, he secured 235 votes in the mayoral race, beating his rival Nemi Matthews, who received 185 votes.
Smith was sworn into office on January 3, 2023, and became the youngest black mayor in the history of the United States. His victory was also notable as he was one of the youngest mayors of any race to hold the position.
