Actor and cast of black tv series ” Empire “, Jussie Smollet, headed back to court today 12th February 2020, hoping to hear good news but rather met with the opposite.

The grand jury of a Chicago court has slapped him with 6 charges for lying to the police into believing that he was attacked and brutally beaten by a racist group in 2019.

Smollett, who is black and gay, was originally charged the following month with disorderly conduct for allegedly staging the attack and lying about it to investigators. The charges were dropped in March 2019 with little explanation, angering police officials and then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The case was later visited by a former U.S. attorney, Webb under strict others from Cook County Judge Michael Toomin who did not see a reason why the case was dropped.

The actor was charged with “making four separate false reports to Chicago Police Department officers related to his false claims that he was the victim of a hate crime, knowing that he was not the victim of a crime,” Mr Webb said.

He is due in court on 24 February.

The city has also sued the actor in a civil suit, seeking payment of more than $130,000 (£100,000) for overtime paid to officers involved in investigating his claims. Smollett has filed a counter suit.
