A report we sighted on Mynewsgh.com indicates that two articulated trucks loaded with smuggled fertilizer have been impounded at the Paga border close to the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.
The vehicles were Burkina Faso bound with the goods but were arrested upon a tipoff on Sunday night. The website adds that the drivers have been detained by the police while investigations are underway to establish the source of the fertilizer believed to be meant for government’s agricultural flagship programme, Planting for Food and Jobs.
According to sources, the final destination of the alleged smuggled products are unknown but the impounded trucks have since been parked at the residency of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council.
A source at the residency close to the Upper East Regional Minister, Madam Paulina Patience Abayage hinted MyNewsGh.com about the development indicating that there will be a media briefing today June 10, 2019 about the arrest.
