The minister for Youth and Sports Isaac Kwame Asiamah, says immediate-past Ghana Coach Kwasi Appiah will soon be paid his outstanding wages.

The sector minister, said this while responding to a question asked him following an earlier comment by his spokesperson and person al assistant, Kofi Asare Brako Abatey that Kwasi Appiah was done a favor for letting him stay at post despite not being able to achieve his target.

“Kwasi Appiah has done a lot for mother Ghana, I have huge respect for him. As a minister, we paid him everything for the two years, it was the contract extension that we owe him. We owed Avram Grant, gradually we shall pay him all his entitlement, he’s our own, he’s a gentleman, and we all respect him” he said.

“Kwasi Appiah has done a lots for Ghana and I have huge respect for him. We [Sports Ministry] through the GFA contacted him, gave him an appointment with our full support.

“In all the assignments he has engaged in, I have been given him my support. We gave him a contract of two years and we don’t owe him even a pesewa but his contract extension that’s what we are owing him and it’s about three months. He has not been disrespected. We gave him the needed respect.

“When I became the Minister, we were owing Coach Avram Grant but we solved the issue and paid him off. Gradually, I can assure you that we will pay Kwasi Appiah all his arrears. We love him as a Ghanaian and have nothing against him”, Hon. Asiamah added.

The former Ghana captain, before his exit, was owned $185,000 by the Ghana Football Association and has on two occasions through his solicitors written to the FA to demand for the money.

Appiah, 61, ended his contract with the Ghana FA on 31st December, 2020. He was sharply replaced by his deputy coach CK Akonnor.
