The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a mentally disabled woman who was accused of having a stolen baby and three (3) AK 47 rifles on Monday, May 24 at Abule Ado, under the bridge in the Festac district of Lagos State.
CP Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained that a preliminary investigation suggests that the mentally ill woman had been living in the area for many years until she was set on fire by a group of people in the area on suspicion of having a baby and three AK 47 rifles.
In a statement released by Adejobi reads;
”The Command wishes to state categorically that the woman was just murdered for reasons best known to the perpetrators of the heinous crime as investigation revealed that no baby and AK 47 rifles were found in her possession neither were they recovered by the perpetrators or the police. It’s just a clear case of murder.
The Commissioner of Police has therefore ordered that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba-Lagos for proper investigation and the culprits should be arrested and charged to court with murder”Adejobi said in the statement
He went on to say that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has cautioned against jungle justice, which he describes as “inhumane, criminal, and detrimental to smooth Administration of Criminal Justice in Lagos and in Nigeria at large.”
He also warned that the command would not condone such crimes, and that the long arm of the law will be used to prosecute anybody or any group of people who partake in jungle justice in the state.
