King Emmanuel Paa Kofi Koomson ‘Shabo,’ a legendary Ghanaian bass musician, has died.

High-life musician Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as A Plus, broke the news of his demise.

The cause of his death is currently unknown.

Sadly, in August of this year, it was revealed that the bassist had become very ill and need financial assistance to pay for his treatment.

An appeal for help was initiated to generate funds for his upkeep, but it received little attention.

King Shabo, as he was affectionately known, had a great deal of power and collaborated on numerous projects with a variety of musicians. He is known for his collaboration with Dobble on the smash tune Christy.

King Shabo, a past recipient of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Instrumentalist of the Year award, created the King Shabo Band, a six-piece band, in 2003.

Before forming his own band, the big-boned bassist worked with bands including EX 93 Dance Band, Musical Box, and Takoradi Air Force Band on a variety of projects. He is known for his collaboration with Dobble on the smash tune Christy.
