In a sad report, two legendary South African music stars, Yoti Loizos (71) and Saranti Reeders (60) have reportedly died from COVID-19.

They become the latest to join the tall list of well-known personalities who have lost their lives in South Africa since the pandemic broke out.

Their death comes at a time when there is a massive increase in COVID-19 cases due to the presence of the Delta variant.

Confirming the death of Saranti, singer Amanda Strydom took to Facebook to write;

“She is gone. Passed away this morning. Beloved Saranti Rheeders. Covid. She was full of light, jokes, super smart, and talented. My heart goes out to her son Cole and loved ones.”

For Saranti, she was a former employee at SABC where she worked as a sound engineer for eight years. Additionally, she was also a vocalist, pianist, arranger, and composer.

Loizos died on Thursday evening and this happened after he had to wait for 6 hours for an ambulance to take him to a hospital in Alberton.

His death was confirmed by his friend, Manie Jackson in a Facebook post which reads;

“it is with great sadness that I announce that the singer and my friend of years, Yoti Loizos passed away on 1 July from Covid-19. With our last talk, 2 days ago, he was still very positive, but his lungs were rather damaged.”
