Argentina captain Lionel Messi has paid tribute to his former coach Diego Maradona, who died on Wednesday.

The football legend died as a result of cardiac arrest. This comes a few weeks after undergoing an operation to remove a blood clot from his brain.

Messi, who played under Maradona when he was in charge of Argentina, said it was “a very sad day for all Argentines and for football.”

“I keep all the beautiful moments I lived with him and I wanted to take the opportunity to send my condolences to all his family and friends. RIP.”
