According to reports, the suspect issued threats against the ECG by pulling a cutlass and threatening to kill him if he dares to touch his meter or arrest him over unpaid debts.

Fearing for their lives, the personnel retreated and sought the assistance of the police who later arrested him. He is currently in police custody and would soon be arraigned on charges of stealing, interference, and the threat of death.

Mr. Ishmael Oku, ECG’s Ashanti Regional Revenue Protection Manager, told Graphic Online that his employees were on t heir regular revenue mobilization rounds when they went to Mr. Mensah’s house to inspect his meter.

During the examination, he stated, it was determined that while he (Mensah) had his electrical devices turned on, including lighting, the meter was turned off and not running.

He further stated that when the staff realized Mr. Mensah is drawing lights illegally, the suspect quickly picked a cutlass and threatened to slash the staff if he dares to disconnect the lights.

According to him, the workers had to file a complaint with the police, who dispatched some of their guys to arrest him.

One of the issues the company faces in the region, he said, is power theft. He claimed that this was costing the company a lot of money.

He promised that the firm would utilize all legal means at its disposal to ensure that individuals who committed the crime would face the full force of the law and be charged with the cost of the power stolen.
