In a report made by the DAILY POST, a young Nigerian man has been given a death sentence for stealing iPhone 6.

The sentence was given by an Ogun State High Court sitting at Isabo, Abeokuta.

The young man given the sentence is identified as Olumide Adekanbi and reports claimed that he had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

Per the report, he committed the offence at Saraki-Adigbe area of Abeokuta in 2016 and the state principal counsel, Owolabi Akinola told the court that the convict committed the offence around 4 a.m. on the said day.

However, his other accomplices are currently on the run as they made away with one laptop computer, one iPad and an iPhone 6.

The stolen items were later recovered from Adekanbi, and it was revealed that he kept them at a village.

One of the victims identified as Abowaba Salmon also informed the court that Adekanbi, while trying to escape, hit him with an offensive weapon on the head and also added that while he was struggling with the robbers, the convict’s mobile phone dropped.

He was reportedly tracked and arrested by the police, using the mobile phone.

The presiding judge, Justice Rotimi Balogun, in his judgement, said the prosecutor proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the convict truly committed the crime as he never denied robbing the victims.

He was found guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.
