Keeping our focus still on the SAFTA 2021, the nominees for the prestigious awards were recently revealed and what raised many eyebrows was the inclusion of TV presenter Katlego Maboe.
Maboe is nominated in the Best Television Presenter category alongside Afternoon Express’ Palesa Tembe, Yimlo’s Dineo Ranaka, Hectic on 3’s Enhle Bizane, The Devi Show’s Devi Sankaree Govender, KN Verslag in gesprek’s Waldimar Pelser and Come Again’s Katchie Nzama.
The SABC television presenter fell from grace to grace after a video of his wife accusing him of giving her an STD went viral on social media.
This came as a surprise to many as the TV host has always kept a clean slate as far as his public life is concerned. In the video, Katlego admitted to cheating with a woman on a work trip. Following the video, the presenter lost out on all of his sponsorships and endorsement. He was relieved from his duties as a presenter on SABC 3’s Expresso.
In a statement shared on Instagram on the 23rd of October 2020, Maboe did admit to being unfaithful but denied ever being abusive to his partner. He also made it clear that he is putting the interests of his child first and asked to deal with the matter privately.
“I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives – an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings. As you can imagine, separations are quite a difficult thing to deal with, especially with a child involved.
In light of the comments made against me, I would like to state that I have never abused my partner. I have always and will always stand up against the abuse of women and children – in fact, the abuse of anyone for that matter.
I had chosen to deal with this matter privately to protect and safeguard our child. At the end of the day, our child is all that matters to me.”
