Deputy Trades and Industry Minister, Carlos Ahenkorah resigned from his post after facing widespread condemnation for visiting registration centres when he knew he has been infected with the deadly Covid-19 virus.

In a directive from Nana Akufo Addo and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency Eugene Arhin, the minister was asked to resign or be fired for subjecting the NPP to the barrage of criticisms and obviously risking the lives of the general public with his careless attitude.

Hon Ahenkorah was in isolation centre days ago after he tested positive for Coronavirus. Surprisingly he ‘sneaked’ out to visit registration centres in Tema West where he’s a Member of Parliament(MP). His action attracted backlash from social and mainstream media after he himself confirmed that indeed he went to check proceedings at the centres.

His action was highly condemned and from the perspective of NPP members, his action posed a threat to the chances of Nana Akufo Addo in the build-up to this year’s election scheduled for December. Besides, President Akufo-Addo wants all his appointees to bear in mind that they are to provide leadership, at all times, for adherence to the protocols that have been established to help the nation defeat COVID-19.

The President accepted the resignation while adding that Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah has acted honorably in the circumstances by resigning from his office and wishes him well.
